Court Upholds Injunction Against Medi-Cal Reimbursement Cuts - Posted 7.10.2009

A federal appeals court ruled that California acted illegally last year by enacting a 10% cut in Medi-Cal fees for health providers. Last August, a federal judge halted the cuts on grounds that they hindered access to care. The new ruling upholds the injunction and requires the state to issue retroactive payments. Advocacy Opportunity: Please Contact your California Congressional Representative over the Memorial Day recess!

The California Congressional Delegation will be home over the Memorial Day recess from Friday, May 22 to Monday June 1. CMA/OCMA would like to urge all member doctors to make appointments with their Members of Congress during that week. Congress is expected to start to vote on the Medicare payment reform legislation in June. The other major health reform bills will follow in June and July. So it is a crucial time to talk to our Representatives!

Stimulus Package Provides $87 Billion for Medicaid Programs; $19 Billion for HIT

California’s Medi-Cal program is expected to receive more than $11 billion over three years as part of the $787 billion economic stimulus package signed into law by President Obama last week. This number is significantly higher than originally anticipated.
